I used to live right near here. I still love my native California.
I didn’t spend a lot of time in Lille, but my daughter lived near there for about nine months. It’s a quaint place, but the French accent in the northern region of France had me very confused, even though my French is pretty good! The people here are more rugged, if you will, than Parisians — and more down to earth, perhaps.
It’s really hard to capture the magnificence of Il Duomo in a photograph, but I did my best. I didn’t get a chance to go inside, so that’s something I’ll have to do the next time I visit the city, which I definitely plan to do. The elaborate gargoyles captured my imagination.
I have visited the 9/11 memorial twice now — once in the winter, once in the spring. This photo is from my wintertime visit, which happened to coincide with the sunset. I found the sounds of two inverted fountains to be evocative of the sound of the buildings falling down.
